Target Arts and Wonder weekend

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

As if there aren’t enough reasons to love Target (see here and here) this weekend Target’s community initiative program which works to make the arts more accessible to all children and families is hosting the nationwide Target Arts and Wonder weekend. There will be over 2200 free events at museums, culture institutions and craft centers. Click here to find an event in your area. Click here to learn more about how Target supports the arts with their art grants for schools.

If you live in LA, on Saturday LACMA is offering a free family arts day which includes free admission to the museum and hands-on arts and crafts. Visit www.lacma.org for more information.

Doesn’t it make you feel better about all that money you spend at Target :) It certainly does for me.

ZP

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

So I know we talk about Target a lot here, we are big fans, and this is a banner month for collaborations.

For those of you that were robbed by the poor planning for the Cynthia Vincent wedges (you can read about the scandal here), don’t fret.

This Sunday is the debut of Zac Posen for Target. Check out this video of the adorable retro band The Like, featuring ZP’s collection:

*Some tips on how to score the much coveted goods:

- Go online at midnight Saturday night. Order online, multiple sizes because sizing can be weird, free shipping, return to store whatever doesn’t work.

- Show up to your local Target EARLY before store opens. There will be other people there with you.

- Enlist the help of friends/family that live in less urban areas (thanks mom!)

Happy shopping & good luck!

Elegance of the Wedgehog

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

S + I are already strategizing for April 18th when Target releases the Cynthia Vincent line of wedges and sandals. We both *NEED* the wedge sandals in *EVERY* color so don’t be surprised if you keep company with Paisley Petunia to see us both zipping around in CV.  Extra super bonus that they are summer-travel-budget-friendly;  you don’t have to skip your summer at the shore to stock pile the collection!

{yes, please}

Also, just wanted to say Target (because I KNOW you’re reading) we heart you and your designer collaborations. I was happily garbed in my Liberty of London patio dress on Easter and will likely be sporting a Eugenia Kim hat this summer. AND  Zac Posen is launching April 25th so seriously there are some major Target outings in the paisley future.

PS:  If you’re my husband and you’re reading this…um, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Target? Don’t even know where Target is. Liberty of what? I’ve had that dress for years.  OK, good, glad we cleared that up.

PPS: Just in case you’re wondering what Elegance of the WEDGEhog is all about it’s a play on “Elegance of the HEDGEhog” which is the book everyone seems to be buzzing about right now. It’s next up in my book queue.

Post Script (UPDATED)

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009
Dear email, Google Wave, i chat, instant messenger, Facebook pokes and Twitter tweets…
What have you done to us?  What did we ever do to you? We’re so pretty and personal and meaningful and lasting and you’ve gone and made everyone think everything is just about short and generic and digital.
We’ll be back. (You can write that one down.)
Signed,
Handwritten notes

Helping handwritten letters and notes stage their comeback is whimsical designer Erin Condren. I’ve been buying her delightful note cards since I got married 3 years ago and one day I was telling S about this great little card designer from the South Bay with the cutest little cards and blah blah blah and she was like “Oh, you mean Erin Condren? I love her.”  Guess we really are 2 peas in a pod! Of course now, EC is all over the place Lucky, Daily Candy, everyone is giddy about her stuff.  (We gave one lucky reader a May Day gift from EC.)

Erin’s designs are bright, modern and affordable. (You may remember my day of mourning over the loss of Mrs. John L. Strong one of the most amazing (but really expensive!!) stationers who sadly succumb to the weak economy and the shrinking number of people who actually write letters and cards.)  *Sniffle*

Anyway, no excuses anymore! Erin Condren has just about every sort of personalized correspondence you’ll need and they don’t cost half your grocery budget. She has recently added photo cards to her lineup and she has a cute line of cards and invites at Target right now (click here to check it out.)   I’m a huge fan of the 100 hearts card (so don’t surprised if you get one from me this year) and S has the sweetest little thank you cards.  Plus, her card sets come with really cute address labels which put those plain white laser jet jobs to shame. And I just discovered she does personalized wrapping paper, how cool is that!

Erin Condren has gorgeous holiday cards, so  if you procrastinated ordering your cards this year (quelle horreur!) you are still in luck. Products ordered this week will ship in time to save you from making a holiday social slip!

UPDATE: The sweet ladies at Erin Condren have offered an exclusive discount for you dear readers, enter PETUNIA10 at check out & receive $10 off a minimum order of $50, good until midnight January 8, 2010.

She’s got legs…

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Happy 1st of October!

While almost every blog I read is jumping for joy that Fall is here and with it colder weather, sweaters, pumpkins and hot spiced cider, I am always sad to say goodbye to Summer.  I am a warm weather girl at heart…once I got a taste of the endless sunny days and summer living of Los Angeles, I just couldn’t go back to the frozen tundra of San Francisco (yet).

Lucky for me, this Southern California fall is mild, mild, mild.  More time to wear my favorite summer dresses and shorts. I’ve found the easiest way to transition is to add tights. I’m even considering the tights with open toed shoes, it looks like it could be cute. What do you think?

Hosiery + leggings are all over the runways and for a small price tag they can spice up your outfits and add depth to your wardrobe. I went on a search and found soooo many to share. There is a plethora of textures, lots of bright colors, fun designs and as always the romantic touch of boudoir.

First we must start with the always classic Wolford black opaque tights. Worth the splurge because you will wear them so much. These are a favorite of C’s.

Sweet as can be hearts from Top Shop:

If you are one to wear your heart on your sleeve, more from Topshop. Mom, can you confirm I had a pair of red hearts on white tights as a child? I think I loved them!

Now add color and ombre to your lace from Urban Outfitters:

Or you can go for the destroyed look. Get ‘em at Urban or do it yourself:
