Inspiration is everywhere

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

The LA sunshine did not follow me to San Francisco last week. In fact, everyday was foggy and cool.  But it didn’t bother me one bit.  In fact against those dismal grey skies the pops of early spring are really striking. It’s hard not to be inspired by the colors and textures that come with the promise of mild weather and longer days. Fresh juicy citrus in street side carts, the delicate pink of the cherry blossoms and the vibrant rainbow of fresh spring flowers are all translated into dreamy spring fashion.

Happy Vernal Equinox! That is to say- Happy First Day of Spring!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

flowerpot1

Spring makes me think of sandals and sundresses and sweet smelling Jasmine and more produce at the farmer’s market and the Devon Horseshow and well, all kinds of happy, pastel colored things; it’s cheerful, “today is a new day” kind of stuff. After all, spring is literally Mother Nature’s wake-up call.

But, what the first day of spring really makes me think about is the countdown to summer! That’s right…90 days until vacations and daylight that goes on forever and white shorts and lobster bakes and margaritas on the patio and…

So, to celebrate spring (and no disrespect meant here) but to really celebrate soon-to-be summer we are giving away a Tucker Blair key fob! Even if you don’t use it for the keys to your summer house on the Vineyard, it’s a perfect way to bring a little seasonal whimsy to keys of any kind. Needlepoint is the de rigueur of preppies and equestrians from coast to coast; now, you have a chance to add a little petit point perfection to your collection.

Here is what you have to do: visit Tucker Blair, pick out the fob you’d want if you win and write a comment on this post with your favorite summer memory (be sure to include which key fob you’d want if you’re the winner. I would so go Starfish but somehow I don’t think I’m eligible.) Anyway,  one winner will be chosen at random on Monday, March 23 at 9am PST and we will share some of the best summer memory comments in a future post. Good luck guys!

Oh and ps: if you are like me waiting patiently (sort of impatiently) for the Tucker Blair flip-flops, I have heard from a trustworthy source, they are going to be available in April!

xoxo,  your girl C.

Inspiration…Chanel Spring Collection – Paris

Friday, March 6th, 2009

BRIGHT WHITE – Amidst the dark dreary news of the global economic turmoil and the dregs of winter, Karl Lagerfield’s spring Chanel Couture collection in all white was classic and fresh, something Chanel always does right. His inspiration, he said, was that he wanted to “start with a clean sheet of paper.” Simple, but charming at the same time.

Yes, the white was fresh and conjured signs of renewal, but the real stars of the show were the headpieces.

These white paper creations are the handiwork of a hairdresser from Japan, Katsuyo Kamo, who spun up delicate flower bouquets and feathers and nests right atop of the model’s fair heads. I think they are lovely and whimsical and who would have thought to make paper hats?

Sort of like when you made paper snowflakes as kid? Sorta.

I just think they are lovely. Perhaps for a bride?

Currently Coveting: Spring Forward

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Since LA seems intent on actually having a winter season, all I can do is look forward to spring and fun, flirty dresses. Recently discovered Steven Alan (late adopter, what can I say) by wandering into his store on Abbot Kinney in my neighborhood. One sunny afternoon, while perusing the plaids and preppy gear, a man entered and the salesgirl says, “Oh, uh, hi, Steven,” all surprised.

Yep it was really him, dropping into his own store. Kinda cool.

So since I feel like I know him, I am now stalking his website.

This gem stuck out – perfect for spring and summer, the back is a tad revealing, but nothing a little yellow or red cardigan wouldn’t compliment nicely.
