Desert Dreamin’

Sitting at my desk, staring out the windows at the beautiful blue skies, swaying palm trees and almost 80* weather, I can’t help but dream about getting away. Next up is a little foray to the desert to listen to some music. The countdown is on, we’re heading out in 8 days…

I stumbled upon these photos, and while I am not sure that they totally correlate with my trip or this post, I like them and vintage + pools + desert heat pretty much sums up why I love Palm Springs.

Kinda wish we were staying at a little retro motel. They really do make life look a whole lot simpler back in the day. And happy, everyone looks happy, hmmm…

Do you know Heath Ceramics?

They craft beautifully designed pottery in Sausilito, California.

I have long admired their bowls and plates.

The photos above show some of their wares on display at a new Community store in the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

Each month they host neat events at their shops (Los Angeles, Ferry Building in SF and Sausalito).

Clare Crespo, celebrated food artist, author of  “The Secret Life of Food” and “Hey There, Cupcake,” has created a crocheted Mardi Gras feast styled on Heath dinnerware. Food made of crochet. So cute + funky, but such a trick…it makes me want the real thing!

It will make your mouth water for all the Cajun classics – she’s recreated Seafood Gumbo, Beignets and Cafe Au Lait (our fave!), King cake, Catfish poboy, Oysters on the half shell and Soft shell crab. More about Clare Crespo here (I love Clare’s stuff and it doesn’t hurt that she and my mom share a maiden name).

The Rat Pack

My Birthday Party (aka New Year’s Eve) theme was to dress up in your fanciest Rat Pack Vegas Style. All the classy dames and gents came dressed to the 9s. (Pictures to come soon!). Coincidentally, this was my 2nd Rat Pack themed event of December and after spending copious amounts of time researching the RP members, style and hairdos I think I’m ready to put my hair up in a bouffant and live the glamorous life.

Trivia: Can you name all the members? There’s Frank, Sammy, Dean and … ???

And LA’s unusually warm winter weather has me dreaming of summer weekend getaways.  While Vegas was their famed playground, Palm Springs was their retreat. Back in the day, Palm Springs was the go-to vacation spot for Hollywood’s royalty.

Heading to the desert…

Off to Palm Springs – the famed playground of Frank Sinatra, Sonny Bono and retired snow birds – this weekend for a girls birthday soiree. Some things I *wish* I was packing:

Within the last week, three (yes, 3!!) of my friends announced their engagements – happiest congratulations to arron, genny & laura!
